About Us
St. Ignatius Robotics was founded in the Fall of 2015 at St. Ignatius College Prep, a Jesuit high school in downtown Chicago. St. Ignatius, known for its rigorous curriculum and excellence in education, is excited to provide its students more ways to actively engage in robotics and engineering. Our robotics team is a part of the larger organization FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics. The mission of FIRST is to inspire young people to be leaders in science and technology by engaging them in a mentor-based program. This program builds STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) skills, inspires innovation, and fosters self-confidence, communication, and leadership. SIR participates in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). After training in the fall, members have six weeks to design and build a robot for competition. Our student-driven team, which includes members with prior FIRST experience, is eager to begin our inaugural FRC year at St. Ignatius.
